Tom Kundinger, The Blogger, Denise Dion, Deanna Kundinger, Kimberly Carrara, Ian Carrara, Howard Dion and Dan Dion. All gathered in Deanna's house on Saturday, July 16.
This is a family whose roots go back a long time, all the way back to Europe starting with the immigration to North America in the 17th century. There are many families like this in North America, and, in fact,in many other places as well.
We had a lot of fun. Here's what we talked about.
1. Only Tom and Kimberly still have their original red hair. Denise is all white.
2. We found out that Kimberly is looking to understand the roots of the family more. Along the way, with Emélie's help we found out that Alcide Dion was born in Saskatchewan.
3. We also found out that Eugene Dion "Big Red" died at 36 years old when his son Eugene Francis Raymond Dion was 14, the eldest of 8.
4. We found out that Ian Carrara, 11, is fluently bi-lingual in English and Italian, and I am sure that he also knows more than some Veronese. Reminds me of many of us children who, at that age, were bi-lingual in French and English.
5. I promised Kim that I would seek the little book that has the history of the Dion/Bachand trek to Canada. I have it but I can't remember if it is in French or English. I'm sure that it isn't in Italian.
All told, it was a very deeply satisfying moment.
Enjoy the picture. This is going to be tucked away in a dark corner of the blog, mostly reachable only by family members. You can search it under the Italian surname. I have not sent this to the general distribution.
